GROWTH HORMONE (HGh)
Indications: Consult with the Laboratory
CHROME
Indications: Do not take mineral supplements or Vitamin B for 3 days.
SPUTUM CULTURE
Indications: First thing in the morning, rinse your mouth with water. If you wear dentures (veneers), remove them first. Open the lid of the sterile package and expectorate directly. When you finish collecting the sample, close the container tightly with the lid to prevent spillage. Write your name, ID / passport and date of collection on the container (not on the lid). Immediately transport the sample to the laboratory where the suitability of the sample for culture will be assessed. NOTES: Small amounts of clear material usually represent saliva not suitable for culture (Collect new sample). Collect only one sample per container. Do not collect several samples in the same container. When coughing, be sure to pluck deeply so the sample is thick (phlegm) and not saliva. In case the laboratory finds that the sample is not adequate, the culture will not be performed, and a new sample will be requested. Take the sample in an open place (with ventilation) not in the bathroom. Note: It is required to fill out the Microbiology network form
STOOL CULTURE (COPROCULTURE)
Type of sample: Stool
Clinical significance/clinical use: To identify Enteropathogenic organisms which are the bacteria that cause diarrhoea.
Indications: N/A
MUSHROOM CULTURE
Type of sample: Scraping of skin, hair, nails, direct wound swabs, sputum, bronchial washings, CSF, body fluids.
Clinical significance/clinical use: Fungi can infect cerebrospinal fluid, other fluids, and tissues. These infections occur in immunosuppressed patients. Early diagnosis and effective treatment can reduce sequelae.
Indications: N/A
CEREBROSPINAL FLUID (CSF) CULTURE
Type of sample: CSF, collect 2mL in a sterile bottle (tube #2).
Clinical significance/clinical use: Early diagnosis and effective treatment can reduce sequelae. Useful in the diagnosis of meningitis.
Indications: N/A
URINE CULTURE (URINE CULTURE)
Type of sample: Preferably morning urine, half stream after aseptic cleansing.
Clinical significance/clinical use: Useful in the diagnosis and treatment of urinary tract infections.
Note: Colony count, identification of the organism and Antibiogram.
Indications: It is preferable that the sample is collected in the laboratory. Use a sterile container for urine collection. Thoroughly clean the genital area with soap and water. Rinse with plenty of water to remove soap. Be careful not to touch the edge or inside of the container to avoid contaminating it. Urinate into the bottle, discarding the first stream of urine. Close the container tightly and deliver it to the laboratory. Be sure to label the container with full name, ID/passport, date and time of collection. The best urine sample is first thing in the morning when you get up.
BLOOD CULTURE (BLOOD CULTURE)
Type of sample: whole blood
Clinical significance/clinical use: Culture can identify aerobic and anaerobic organisms in blood. Mixed bacterial infections are common and can involve these two types of bacteria. When an organism is identified, an antibiotic susceptibility is made to guide selection of the appropriate treatment.
CULTURE OF SECRETION (PHARYNGEAL, NASAL, OTIC, OCULAR, VAGINAL, SEMEN)
Stability: Room temperature up to 24 hours
Clinical significance/clinical use: To detect infections by numerous bacteria. When the bacterium is identified, an antibiogram or sensitivity to antibiotics is run to guide the selection of antibiotic treatment.
Indications: N/A
CULTURE FOR ACID ALCOHOL FAST BACILLUS (BAAR)
Type of sample: sputum, bronchial washings, CSF
Clinical significance/clinical use: Tuberculosis is a chronic, granule-matous disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Its identification is needed and, if necessary, the sensitivity of the microorganism to start treatment.
Indications: It is required to fill out the form.
